Our Story

The Head Shack was founded with a clear vision: to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support to adults who have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, and the complex challenges that often follow—including substance abuse, mental ill health, and social and economic disadvantage.

Registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in March 2025, we are proudly based in the historic village of Wylam, Northumberland. Our beautiful stone building at 59 Woodcroft Road serves as more than just a facility—it's a sanctuary where individuals can find acceptance, understanding, and the tools they need to rebuild their lives.

We recognize that recovery is not a linear journey. It requires patience, compassion, and a supportive community. That's why we've created a space where people can come together, share experiences, learn new skills, and access professional support—all free from judgment.

Our building

Trauma-Informed Care

Every aspect of our work is guided by trauma-informed principles. We understand that trauma affects people differently, and we ensure our services are delivered in ways that:

  • Promote Safety: Physical and emotional safety is our top priority in every interaction.
  • Build Trust: We create transparent, consistent relationships based on mutual respect.
  • Empower Choice: You are always in control of your recovery journey with us.
  • Foster Collaboration: We work with you, not for you, honoring your expertise in your own life.
